Dismantling of the MV Baltic Ace

Under commission by Rijkswaterstaat, Boskalis and Mammoet Salvage together salvaged the MV Baltic Ace. This was an eight-deck roll-on-roll-off ship that had 1,417 factory-new Mitsubishi cars on board. The wreck was transported on pontoons to Jansen Recycling Group’s dismantling yard in Vlaardingen. Here we dismantled and processed the wreck sections successfully and comfortably within the specified period.

The MV Baltic Ace suffered a collision on 5 December 2012 with container ship Corvus J. The ship sank some 65 kilometres from the coast of Goeree-Overflakkee, right in the middle of one of the busiest international shipping lanes in the North Sea. The wreck hampered smooth and safe marine navigation towards the Port of Rotterdam. The cars on board and the oil present formed a threat to the environment.
